On February 11-12, the 21st International Conference of the Leontief Readings series, "30 Years After Socialism: The Political Economy of Russian Evolution," was held in St. Petersburg.

Due to the current epidemiological situation, the conference was held in a hybrid format, with most of the presentations being online. Leading Russian and international economists from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Rostov-on-Don, Barnaul, Krasnodar, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, as well as Japan and Poland, presented their papers and participated in the discussion. Over 100 people participated in the conference.

At the conference’s conclusion, S.A. Vasiliev, Chairman of the Leontief Centre’s Public Awards Committee, presented information on the 2021 International Leontief Medal laureates "For Contribution to Economic Reform" and announced that the 2021 Awards Ceremony would be held in person at a later date. By decision of the Public Awards Committee, the following were awarded:

  • For his contribution to reforming the financial and monetary system of Russia, Sergei Konstantinovich Dubinin, Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (1995-1998), Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VTB Bank, and Head of the Department of Finance and Credit at the Lomonosov Moscow State University;
  • In recognition of his unique theoretical and practical contribution to market reforms and economic education in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, Jan Schweinar, Professor of Economics and International Affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, New York.
